white out

It’s Monday again… it’s snowing with a wind chill of NEGATIVE 3 WTF… but I’m in a good mood because…

WE GOT OUR VACCINES SATURDAY NIGHT!!
Yes it’s just the first of two but I’m SO EXCITED and relieved to have this shot. Obviously we are not in any of the groups currently getting vaccines – we aren’t healthcare workers/first responders/over 75 – but we got a lucky break.

We had decided to have Valentine’s dinner Saturday night because I didn’t want to do it Sunday (steak, lobster, potatoes… it was yummy). We’d just finished eating, were watching a movie, when Kristie called and told us that the main vaccine site here in town was done with appointments but had a bunch of vials leftover they needed to use and were giving shots to anybody. We really didn’t think we’d make it in time (we live like 20 minutes away from the fairgrounds where they are doing the shots) and who knows if that intel was correct… but we decided to take a shot (haha get it?)

In our pajamas we just threw on shoes and went. We got in line right around 8:30. It was a long line of cars winding through the fairgrounds. Nobody was checking people or anything so we just waited. We figured if they turned us away, we’d at least know the process for the future. About an hour and a half into waiting, a truck with blue lights came out and cut the line off about 15 cars behind us. We could hear them announce they were out of vaccine. We stayed put… another hour and a half later (total wait time just over 3 hours), we were the last group pulled into the building and we got our first dose of the vaccine right around 11:45. It was kind of emotional.

We have to get our second dose sometime after March 6. But this makes me feel so much better about our end-of-April disney trip. Originally, if things had stayed on track, we’d be eligible sometime in March (IF we could get an appointment) but in reality it’d probably be summer before we got it.

So yeah I’m super happy and relieved. We were lucky. We’ve been keeping our ear to the ground for something like this – and I’ve been watching the appointment sites like a hawk. Still am because my parents still need it, and a few other folks. Hopefully something like this comes up again.

Side effects – none, just a sore arm. My arm was a little more sore than when I got my tetanus shot a few years ago. But I feel like that’s not a fair comparison because after I got the tetanus shot, I went to work and moved my arm around all day and I think that helped prevent it from hurting too badly. After my covid shot I went home and went to bed LOL I think drawing a good part of the next day helped.

Anyway. I don’t really have any sewing to share this week – I did mess around with making a sports bra using some leftover fabric and a Wonder Woman workout pattern I have. I’ve been wanting to use it because it can actually be made to my weird size, but even then it was way too big and I had to take it up a lot. I ordered some elastic to keep messing with it later.

So what did I do this weekend instead of sewing? I actually drew. Shocker.

Chase gave me these cool tone prismacolor markers a while back, and I saved these big, nice pieces of paper from being thrown away at work when we shut the office down. Started out with this Leia.

Then wanted to do a Wanda based on Mucha’s Princess Hyacinth.

And then I wanted to do a Padme to match the Leia…

I started out with a picnic Padme… but got it about 75% done and decided it just didn’t look right. I didn’t want to redo the hairnet (it was annoying) so I started over and switched to Lake dress Padme.

I got them scanned in but the scans aren’t great. It really lost some of the lighter details.

Like this one just looks like her face is mostly white and untouched when it’s not. The iphone photos are better.

Here’s the picnic Padme I didn’t finish. It just wasn’t a good likeness and felt off.

And the Wanda. I have plans to clean this up in Photoshop and maybe colour it.

Saturday I went over to my parents’ house and helped my mom remove/tie off some beading on a bridesmaid dress she was hemming. Skye helped.

Also here’s our cove yesterday morning.

This morning it started sleeting and now it’s snowing like crazy. They said we might get like 6 inches of snow today. Chase is off work. I’m wondering if this afternoon might finally be my chance to take Hoth Leia photos in the snow. I’ve never done it because, since I made it in 2006, we haven’t had a snow big enough to cover the grass totally. This might be it??

Chase got me some more Disney wax melts for Valentine’s Day:

His fav was the Soar over Fiji so that’s what I put in Saturday. I had wanted to put the Happy Haunts one in yesterday but forgot – so I’ll put it in tonight.

And last thing…

Our flag is literally frozen in this shape.

This week I think I’m going to clean up my sewing room and maybe start on Endor Leia. I need to start on Padme but my mind just isn’t there. Or I might do my disneybound Leia top now that I’ve tested out the etsy pattern from last weekend. We’ll see, it’ll be whatever I feel like at the time.

Next weekend Kevin is going to come stay with us! I’m excited! I’m going to get him caught up on Wandavision and do a little Luke & Leia photoshoot.

So now for this week’s tiktok review.

Last week I said I wasn’t going to post until the weekend. I mostly made it… I didn’t post Monday or Tuesday. Wednesday I had a question I wanted to reply to so I made a quick green screen video. No post Thursday, then I posted Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So let’s see how those did.

Wedneday’s post was a response to a question about my Lake dresses. This one did surprisingly well.
2,184 likes. Most of my views were from my followers (58%) but decent FYP page views (40%). 1% from profile.
It’s not great, but it’s decent, compared to last month’s engagement.

Friday’s post was another really short “I want it, I made it” post.
1,140 likes. 52% FYP, 46% following, 1% profile.

Saturday’s post was a storytime.
799 likes, 49% FYP, 48% Following, 1% profile.

Sunday’s post was a total bomb. It was a dressform video of my pink georgian gown I thought suitable for valentine’s day.
107 likes. 75% following, 20% FYP (surprised there’s any), 4% profile.
Awful.

So I’m definitely still being suppressed. It’s irritating.

Last night I recorded 4 new dressing videos (Hoth Leia, B52s Kate, Briar Rose and Sleeping Beauty). I think I may post today – I need to do a new video in my Padme costume series, I’ve skipped it 2 weeks in a row. If I post it today, then I’ll skip Tuesday-Thursday and save the dressing videos for next weekend.

Also I’ve lost nearly another 100 followers. Can you feel my irritation from here?
